- Instructs others in principles and practices of anesthesia, respiratory care, and CPR as directed by an Anesthesiologist.
- Performs initial acute CPR in life-threatening situations or as directed by a physician.
- Assists the Anesthesiologist in gathering routine pre-operative data.
- Chooses appropriate anesthesia and drugs to be administered in life-threatening emergencies where standard orders for resuscitation or therapy are routine or where the standard orders for the conduct of a specified anesthetic are prescribed.
- Visits patients post-operatively to determine quality of recovery and in order to discover any problems arising from the conduct of the anesthetic. Complications are reported to the Anesthesiologist and documented for quality improvement. Writes a post-anesthetic evaluation in patient’s record to include date, time, evaluation, and signature.
- May have additional department specific duties as necessary.

The Virtual Care RN will utilize a high level of knowledge about specialty care operations and multiple complex medical conditions in coordination with KP Specialties. The Virtual Care RN will work directly with multiple specialty clinics, physicians, nurse practitioner, and nursing staff. Ability to effectively communicate scheduling and template management with providers and nursing staff. Coordinates care and communication between multiple providers inside and outside of Kaiser Permanente including primary care providers, and other specialties providers. Interprets clinical data. Ability to be self-directed and act independently to manage multiple tasks at once and intervene as appropriate to resolve issues. Communicates with members and provides education regarding their diagnosis. Facilitates orders as directed.Essential Responsibilities:
Monitors electronic messaging and email related to patient and provider requests and inquiries. Manages the messages as appropriate and triages to physician or others as needed. Provides telephonic and electronic (kp.org) interactions with patients that require follow-up care and/or preventative outreach.
Assesses patient and family health education needs, provides teaching and counseling, evaluates effectiveness of the education process and offers opportunities for health teaching and counseling.
Answers inquiries from internal providers, patients and family members by telephone.
Schedules complex procedural appointments and orders necessary pre-testing as determined by provider, protocols and chart review.
Triage and facilitate member appointments, specifically all procedural, urgent, emergent, and some hospital follow-up appointments.
Performs post-operative phone calls within 48 hours.
Accurately documents patient data, actions, interventions and patient response to care.
Facilitates transitions of care from the hospital. Provides care coordination across the continuum.
Manage and de-escalate upset members.
Assist in the module as necessary (answer the phone, assist members and provide nursing care as necessary in the clinic).
Provides clinical guidance to call center as needed for specialty appointments.
Complete any delegated tasks from the Nurse Manager.
